improving life through art
ACPPA Community Art Center is excited to offer our community the option of long term dance classes at an
affordable price. We pride ourselves on the excellent dance curriculum we offer and insist that our dance
teaching artists possess a collegiate degree in dance studies as well as extensive teaching experience.

While the goal for our dance classes is for the students to enjoy their classes and be excited to push
themselves both physically and artistically, we start each new session with a review of basic technique and
body alignment. Regardless of prior experience, it is important for all students to rebuild their
neuro-muscular bridges (ie. muscle memory) so that they can quickly move away from dancing in their
heads to dancing through their heart and core. This is obviously also important to avoid injuries.

Each class begins with a warm up and moves towards technique center floor and traveling exercises. This
is followed by a combination that highlights current technical studies. Students are asked often to
collaborate in creating the center floor combination to allow them to build their artistry and choreography
abilities. Games are often used to present new material in a fun, energized manner.

Students involved in the continuous dance studies will participate in two performances during the year. Our
Holiday Concert (December 12th) will be an informal performance without costumes followed by the
Formal Spring Concert (May 22nd) with costumes and lighting. The costume fees are built into your
monthly tuition fees, but we will charge a small admission fee to the performances to raise funding for the
program.
